Electrical for home additions

Electrical for home additions

A new room, a bigger garage or a second story has to tie into the house you already have. We make sure the service can carry it, then wire it to match.

Start with the load

An addition usually brings new heating and cooling, more lighting and more receptacles. The first question is whether your existing service can carry all of that. We run the load calculation from your plans so you know whether the panel stays, whether a subpanel makes sense, or whether the service should be upgraded while the work is already happening.

What we handle

  • Load calculations and service sizing from your plans
  • Subpanels and feeders run from the existing panel
  • Rough-in and trim for lighting, receptacles and dedicated circuits
  • Circuits for new HVAC equipment and appliances
  • Moving existing wiring, meters or service drops out of the way of the new footprint
  • Exterior lighting and receptacles on the new walls

Bring your plans early

A service drop or meter on the wall you plan to build over is much cheaper to deal with before framing starts. Call us when you have a drawing, even a rough one, and we can price the electrical alongside the rest of your bids.

Common questions

Can you price an addition from plans?

Yes. Send us what you have. We will tell you what we need to firm up the number and whether a site visit is required.

Will my service need to be upgraded?

That depends on your existing service and what the addition adds. We calculate it so you get a real answer. Many homes on older 100 amp services do need more capacity.

My service line is where the addition goes. Can it be moved?

Yes. We handle the electrical side and coordinate the rest with your utility.
