Whole-home remodels and rewiring

When the walls are coming open anyway, it is the right time to replace old wiring, size the service for how you live now, and put lights and receptacles where you want them.

What a whole-home job covers

  • A new service and panel sized for the finished house
  • Removing old or ungrounded wiring and damaged circuits
  • New circuits for the kitchen, baths, laundry and HVAC
  • A lighting plan room by room
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms wired to current requirements
  • Whole-home surge protection, installed while the panel is new

Older Eastern Iowa homes

Many homes in Cedar Rapids, Marion and Mount Vernon have decades of additions and repairs behind the walls. We find out what is there before pricing the job, tell you plainly what has to go and what can stay, and put it in writing.

Living in the house during the work

If you plan to stay in the home, tell us at the start. We can phase the work so you keep power to the kitchen, a bathroom and bedrooms for as long as possible, and we will tell you ahead of time when the power has to be off.

“We are so happy we went with Element Electric… Finally a company that cares about customer service.”

Common questions

How do I know if my house needs a rewire?

Warning signs include ungrounded two-prong receptacles, cloth-covered wiring, breakers that trip often, and scorch marks or heat at devices. We can look it over and tell you what we find.

Can you rewire without gutting the walls?

Often, yes, with some access holes. A gutted house is faster and cheaper to wire, so we try to line the work up with a remodel when one is planned.
